A library remade

Renovations and additions are hard. Perhaps the most difficult of all architectural endeavors. There are elements of bringing the existing building up to code, integrating the new into the old, respecting the old and adding your own touch, the nightmares of what you find behind walls and ceilings, I could go on. The past few years one of my projects has been the addition and renovation of a local library. It is designed and led by my friend Monica. I had the opportunity to do the construction documents and have been able to follow through helping in construction as needed.

 

Today was a site visit that was truly impactful; one where I see my work being completed and tingles run up my spine. My favorite view of the day was one of a pair of 45' high concrete wing walls. I'll share with you:
